Revit + Smartsheet: Mapping Asset Data from BIM to an External Data Source

In the world of PropTech, I’ve run into the same challenges many teams face. Recently, Triple Zero Labs partnered with a major owner/operation to rethink how they manage procurement and forecasting for their assets — and the results have been game-changing.

The Problem

We quickly uncovered three big blockers:

1. Manual data entry slows everything down.

Even with polished Excel workflows, the process was still slow, expensive, and prone to human error. A single typo could cascade into major issues later.

2. Revit wasn’t built for easy data management.

Asset data lived inside complex models that only BIM managers felt comfortable touching. That created bottlenecks, limited collaboration, and kept the rest of the team at arm’s length.

3. Spinning up servers wasn’t an option.

Standing up a web server and database sounded simple until security reviews, approvals, and overhead costs made it clear that this path wasn’t realistic for a large enterprise.

Solution

Instead of forcing new infrastructure, we leaned into what the client already trusted. They used Revit. They used Smartsheet. So we connected them.

We built a lightweight Revit add-in that syncs BIM data directly with Smartsheet. We didn’t need to spin up any servers, databases, or complicated setups. Just a seamless bridge that lets teams update and share asset information without ever opening a model. The impact on procurement and forecasting has been massive.
